Over the decades Snake has been coded for almost every platform in existence. From smart phones to personal computers to gaming consoles, a version or variation of this game has appeared as either a formal or homebrew release. The Commodore Vic-20 is no exception. If one were to peruse the Denial forum archives one will find a menagerie of examples ranging from Basic language implementations to sophisticated assembler releases which sport advanced features and levels.

The appeal stems from the reasonable straight forwardness of the idea, the ease of coding implementation and the enjoyment of the game itself. So what’s the game idea?

You play the role of a snake, a snake with an insatiable appetite. However there’s a catch – The more you eat the more you grow.  So inevitably you end up either biting your own tail or crashing into a wall or another obstacle. That’s it, that’s the game.

In this version there is only one sort of treat for the Snake, huggable furry bunnies. Now before you get upset and teary eyed about the death of all those bunnies, remember the bunnies do get their revenge in the end as the snake drowns in its own gluttony. One could even say that the game has greater meaning and that the struggle depicted in this game is a biting comment on modern societal consumerism and its inevitable outcome. Some deep contemplation of the philosophical implications of this game could even lead to an existential crisis, so I do not recommend doing so.

Anyway the player gets an extra at 500.
